Food and Good Health
Keeping the body fit is the foundation of good
health. To a large extent each person must protect his or her own health. Sometimes
poor health cannot be voided, but there are many things that you can do or not
do, to guard your health.
To keep good health one must live in a clean
environment with fresh air to breathe, clean water to drink and good food to eat.
Thus to remain healthy our body needs:

Balanced diet

Regular exercise
·
Enough rest.

Balance Diet
Proper care of
the body begins with a good diet. Food provides the body’s energy and the body
needs to take in proper amount of food. Food energy is measured in calories if
you take in proper number of calories, you will stay healthy, if you taken in
few calories you will lose your body systems many begin to work poorly this
results in many diseases and disabilities.
The food we eat
has some important substances which help to keep the body healthy. These
substances are carbohydrates, proteins fats, mineral salts, vitamins and water.
The food we eat daily is called our diet. Our diet must contain enough of all
the important substances this forms a balanced diet. Besides Carbohydrates,
proteins, minerals and vitamins, our food must contain enough roughage which
helps to get rid of waste food. Vitamins keep our body fit, improve our
appetite, and enable us to fight diseases. All vegetables and fresh fruits give
us most of the vitamins that our body needs.
Proteins are
essential for growing children. Milk, meat, eggs, fish and peas are excellent
sources of proteins. Carbohydrates give us energy to work and play, Cereals,
bread, sugar, potatoes contain many Carbohydrates.
Water is
also essential to life. To keep yourself fit and healthy, you should drink
water whenever you are thirsty.
Sometimes wrong
ways of cooking food can make your food deficient. Never wash vegetables after
peeling and cutting as it washes away many vitamins and minerals .A lot of
starch (carbohydrate) is thrown away with the water in which the rice was
cooked Overcooking the food kills the vitamins and other important substances. Food
should be stored n such a way a sot retain its nutritional value. Make sure you
eat well, balances and healthy diet.
Exercise:
Regular exercise
is very important for good health. Exercise helps to keep the muscles in good
tone, It helps to keep bones strong, and it helps the lungs, heart and blood
vessels to work well. Exercise has beneficial effects on the way fats and carbohydrates
are used by the body in general the human bodyseems to work bestwhen it gets
reular exercise .Exercise also helps the nervous system by supplying extra
blood to the brain .outdoor games are good for
the fitness of our body and mind. A good posture gives us a graceful
appearance to our body. However, if you are too habituated to a lot of
exercise, you should be careful when beginning an exercise programmed. Suddenly
increasing the amount of exercise may be harmful. You should increase the
amount of exercise gradually. People who have not exercised much should consult
a physician (doctor) before planning vigorous exercise.
